introducing interview + archive

we are most excited to announce 2 brand new weekly columns that we are launching this week on i heart photograph: interview and archive.

interview is where we invite photographers to talk to us in detail about just one of their images. consider it a rare glimpse into the ideas, process, and mental notes behind the picture. we owe this all to guest blogger nicholas grider. nicholas is in his final semester of the mfa programs in photography and writing at calarts. he also writes for artslant. interview will launch today on i.h.p. and appear every tuesday.

archive is where we unearth one of the zillion weird and compelling photo archives that exist out there in cyberspace for your parusal and delight. the man behind archive is guest blogger asha schechter. asha is a grad student in the photo department at ucla. he maintains his own archive of sorts too, known as specific things. archive will launch tomorrow and appear on the blog each wednesday.

if you have a brilliant idea for a column you'd like to contribute, write and let us know: iheartphotograph@gmail.com

i love you mom!

i'm in massachusetts visiting my family for a couple of days so i thought i'd leave you guys with this digital drawing my mom made...she's just learning to use the computer. funny to watch your mom make things that look like drawings you did when you were a little kid. who knows, maybe someday i'll get her blogging! back in nyc tomorrow and i promise more posts then...

i heart photograph will be making some small technical improvements to the site in the next few days. one such exciting upgrade: all links will soon be opening in a new window instead of taking you away from the blog. also some tag word improvements. please bear with us while we're transitioning.

i also wanted to say a huge and overdue thanks to everyone who came to the opening, has made the trip up to see the exhibition at higher pictures, or sent their congrats. it's so very appreciated!

and finally, i've said this before but i'll say it again...i heart photograph loves to hear your feedback. please keep your comments and emails coming!

stockholm!

just a quick hello from me. still traveling...in stockholm at the moment...and having an amazingly lovely time. this might just be one of the best vacations ever in the whole history of vacationing.

wanted to say a huge thanks to eric for all the great posts over the last week and to introduce you to a new guest blogger who will be taking over where he left off. asha is perhaps best described as a man of mystery and intrigue. he recently left his post as a photo researcher at the new yorker to spend more time on his own work. he begins ucla's esteemed mfa program photography this fall. give him a big welcome.

say hello to 5 things

i am most excited to unveil a new weekly feature on the blog today called 5 things. 5 things invites some of my favorite photographers whose work has appeared on i heart photograph to share a list of 5 of the things they like best in the world. i fancy 5 things to be like a little x-ray showing us the interesting ways their minds work and what sorts of things might directly or indirectly influence the work they make.

i can also promise a few other great new features in store in the coming weeks. hooray!

your feedback, ideas, and photographs are always most welcome at: iheartphotograph@gmail.com
