anthony auerbach's 'the state of new york' project. "an aerial survey of the whole state of new york from an altitude of seven feet. the survey records the surface of a giant copy of the texaco road map which was inlaid in the terrazzo floor of the new york state pavilion for the 1964–65 world’s fair. the pavilion, designed by philip johnson and advertised as the ‘tent of tomorrow’, now stands derelict in flushing meadows corona park, queens. the archive of photographs forms the basis of a series of works which reflect on a map in the process of turning back into a landscape and on the material of history." see more here.

women's audio archive

"the women's audio archive began as a series of recordings, taped by marysia lewandowska after leaving her home country in 1984, grown out of an interest in language as a site of cultural displacement. these recordings document public events, seminars, talks, conferences, and private conversations as valuable records of a particular time in discourse, beginning around 1983 until 1990." listen here.

the rest is silence

"in the late 1970s a group of people living in the borough of hackney in east london began building a structure on a derelict lot in their neighborhood. they continued building until last january. the story of the project’s origins are a mystery. all that is known is that because the residents couldn’t decide on what they wanted to build, they made three rules. one: they would build without discussion, plan or blueprint. two, when they were on the building site, no one was allowed to speak. and three, the building would never be completed, in that anyone at any point could decide to take it in a new direction. so the structure was built for thirty years, until last year when the council sold the land to a developer who tore it down in january." the structure is the subject and inspiration for the book 'the rest is silence' with photos by emanuel almborg, text by jeff kinkle, design by konst & teknik, and published by andperseand.
