dora maar and hello or goodbye

big thanks to laurel for letting me post all these images by artists that were filling my brain it was a ton of fun. images are about my favorite things in the world and almost ever since I started making them i dreamt of a time when we could speak in pure images - maybe we are getting closer ... like the egyptians !

farrell brickhouse

i knew farrell from days spent on the street in front of my studio at 65 w bway - everybody on the block knew farrell. he was quite a painter and not only did he have great tales about belushi the rest of the saturday night live cast descending on the block to have a snowy evening - but he had beaten our landlord out of paying rent and had won an extraordinary terms from him with his electric persitance - he got to live there. west broadway between murray and warren became farrell's block. i can still hear him screaming from half a block away at my brother because he had beeped his horn for me up on the 3rd floor. he was right. farrell , who is still an amazing painter , moved to warmer pasteurs on staten island several years ago - the block misses him - but i just came across some images of him - and the studio during his west broadway days and his presence came rushing back - and realized he is also quite a photographer and collector of photos more from farrell's "book of sources" album can be found here

asger carlsen

asger carlsen with his constructed images seems to bring out something that the photograph wanted to stay but could not - before he made it not only talk - but keep speaking to us. i think he takes charles white's work one step further.

a few images found on painted,etc. a new site produced by the australian artist ry david bradley . he describes it as a broad research initiative to document the practice , understanding, and lineage of painting and its descendants in the post internet age. painted etc accepts contributions, brief reviews, short artist essays, statements and images. but it is a very cool site at the intersection of new media, photography and painting. enter painted , etc here

tim berresheim

tim berresheim is a german artist who lives and works in Cologne. his constructed and often overloaded images are printed on a variety of surfaces including wood . he also makes music with the artist, Jonathan Meese, more here

julien prévieux

julien prévieux is an artist who lives and works in paris , france. in addition to an interesting 1998 series called pendu(hang) in which he hangs off of things in different places. he made his own 120 minute re-worked version of the 1999 james bond movie “the world is not enough” . his version completed in 2004 , entitled the "world is not enough", added a completely new set of effects to the Bond movie : each shot was enhanced by additional explosions, flames, smoke, torrents of water and avalanches. he has said that he tried with his version , to reveal " a second rhythm which is no longer that of its narrative, but the rhythm of its new effects." his reworkings of reality can be found here
