postcard from mexico city

goodbye new york city. i'll be traveling almost all summer long but promise to keep you updated on my whereabouts and projects along the way. right now i've landed in amazing mexico city and i'll be here until the end of july. here's some of what i'm up to at the moment: i'll be working with the museo tamayo on some really incredible projects, including the online magazine they recently launched: rufino.mx. i'm also taking part in postopolis!df this week, a really super conference of bloggers that kicked off yesterday and goes through saturday. it's organized by the greatgreatgreat people from storefront for art and architecture, museo experimental el eco, tomo, and domus. i'll be speaking at postopolis! on thursday at 7pm, if you're in town come by and say hello (full event info is here), and for everyone else livestream is here.

laurel told me about this crazy japanese blog that features images from books. these are from a french book archived there called "dance avec les chats" which looks like one of the weirdest and best books ever.

joachim schmid

i love joachim schmid's work. these are from a project he did back in the '90s called photogenetic drafts, made from shredded negatives donated to the the institute for the reprocessing of used photographs. this morning i just came across joachim's blog where he archives his projects and writings...definitely worth spending some time poking around. you can also see a previous post about him here.

nicholas grider

photographer nicholas grider is keeping a blog in order to externalize his thinking while preparing for his mfa thesis show. i think it's a great idea, it's interesting to engage with someone's process this way. these are examples from his lovely "pre- and post-digital abstractions." and you can take a peek at his blog right here.

foto fangen is a collaborative photo blog. the idea is simple: someone uploads a photo and the next photo is a direct response to it and then the next photo is a response to that. and on and on. peeking around and discerning the logic between photos is extremely gratifying. take a look at foto fangen here.
