The Last Men on the Moon

I lived in Karachi, Pakistan from 1972-1977. I have many memories of that time, but very few artifacts. In 1973, the Apollo 17 astronauts visited the newly stabilized Pakistan. They had walked on the moon and now they walked on Pakistani soil. It was a great moment in the hopeful new history of the country and the US State Department commemorated the event with a photobook that is among my more prized possessions from that time.

Four years after the astronauts' visit we left Pakistan as a military coup deposed and executed president Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and ushered in a decade of Sharia law.
