penny gentieu

in the 1980s penny gentieu found a collection of 35mm slides from the '50s in a trash can outside her apartment in nyc. they were badly marred, likely from fire and water damage, but penny decided to print them anyway and the resulting images are an amazing blur of reality and abstraction. penny is a commercial photographer herself, and you can read a most fascinating interview about her legal battle with the behemoth of a stock agency that is getty images right here.
