a project from the atlas group by marwan hanna. "in the summer of 1982, i stood along with others in a parking lot across from my mother's apartment in east beirut, and watched the israeli land, air, and sea assault on west beirut. the PLO along with the lebanese and syrian allies retaliated, as best they could. east beirut welcomed the invasion, or so it seemed. west beirut resisted it, or so it seemed. in 1982, i was thirteen, and wanted to get as close as possible to the events, or as close as my newly acquired telephoto lens permitted me that summer." see more here.

red caballo

"the photographic series entitled augustus, by spanish photographer duo “red caballo” (maria cavaller and marc roig blesa), occupies a significant place in the ongoing tradition of exchange between photography and the human body—a body that red caballo has been photographing for the last five years, in the month of august only (a period corresponding, in the northern hemisphere, to the summer holidays). the two photographers confined their activity to the european union, including its recent eastern members. sharing a single camera on a shoulder strap, they concentrated on tourist spots (in italy, the UK, romania, bulgaria, hungary…) for this "project in progress", as a result of which the EU became a homogenous territorial and cultural entity with a collective identity—in visual terms at least—for the duration of the summer." see more here.

"the women's audio archive began as a series of recordings, taped by marysia lewandowska after leaving her home country in 1984, grown out of an interest in language as a site of cultural displacement. these recordings document public events, seminars, talks, conferences, and private conversations as valuable records of a particular time in discourse, beginning around 1983 until 1990." listen here.

as they describe it, "belfast exposed photography has compiled an archive of half a million images since 1983. the archive is a vernacular document, a record of a turbulent historical period in the city's history, produced from the perspectives of its principal actors, the communities themselves. It is not a representative view of the city as whole but an arbitrary gathering of images and views, of and from specific parts of belfast." these are from the category "demonstrations". more here.
